Why is cold rolled steel so much stronger than hot rolled steel

219 次浏览

In cold rolling, the material gets work -hardened and hence becomes tough and strong. This is because the dislocation density increases in cold rolling resulting in the increase of its strength.

On the other hand, during hot rolling, concomitant recrystallization takes place in the rolled material, resulting in strain free grains after the rolling operation. As a result, the hot rolled material is soft, more ductile, and less strong compared to the same material which is cold rolled.
